Description

Super Laykold is a rubberised bitumen emulsion used as a liquid waterproofing compound. It can be applied alone or with a reinforcing membrane (abe® membrane) to create a flexible, seamless waterproof barrier — ideal for roofs, parapet walls, flashings and water-contact areas.

Available Sizes / Packing

• Packaging: 1 L / 5 L / 20 L / 200 L containers
• Colour (when cured): Black matt waterproof membrane

Stock Status

In Stock / On Request (depending on supplier availability)

Product Highlights

  • Rubberised bitumen emulsion — elastic and flexible waterproof membrane
  • Excellent adhesion, even on porous or non-porous surfaces
  • Can be used with abe® membrane for enhanced waterproofing strength
  • Suitable for potable water or koi-pond use — non-toxic when cured
  • Effective for roofs, flat slabs, parapets, joints, flashings and areas of full water immersion

Technical Specifications

Property Specification / Detail
Product Type Rubberised bitumen waterproofing emulsion
Packaging 1 L, 5 L, 20 L, 200 L
Form (before cure) Liquid emulsion (ready to apply)

Application Instructions

  • Ensure surface is clean, dry, sound, free from dust, grease, laitance or loose particles before application.
  • For metal surfaces, apply suitable metal primer (e.g. bitu.prime or 4-metal primer) before Super Laykold.
  • Apply first coat of Super Laykold by brush or roller, embed abe® membrane if required (for enhanced waterproofing), let base coat dry.
  • After first coat dries, apply second/full coat to ensure complete coverage and membrane integrity.
  • Allow full cure per manufacturer recommendations before exposure to heavy water or filling (for ponds/tanks).

Suitable Applications

  • Flat roofs, terraces, balconies — waterproofing membrane under tiles or screed
  • Parapet walls, flashings, roof joints, metal-sheet roofs (sealing screws, joints, laps)
  • Water tanks, storage reservoirs, ponds (including koi-fish ponds because non-toxic when cured)
  • Concrete slabs, screeds, masonry surfaces needing protection from water ingress
  • Corrugated metal roofs or older roofs needing joint and overlap sealing

Compatibility & Limitations

  • For metal roofs, surface priming required before application for correct adhesion.
  • Not recommended to apply if ambient/substrate temperature below 5 °C.
  • For exposed roofs, after membrane cure, apply protective top-coat (e.g. reflective/aluminium paint) if required (e.g. to reduce UV damage).

Frequently Asked Questions

Super Laykold is a rubberised bitumen emulsion used for waterproofing roofs, terraces, parapets, ponds, water tanks, and sealing joints or screws on metal roofs. It creates a flexible waterproof membrane that protects surfaces from water ingress and leakage.

Yes. It is ideal for sealing laps, joints, screw holes and overlaps on corrugated or metal-sheet roofing — ensuring waterproofing even on metal roofs when properly primed.

Yes. When cured correctly, Super Laykold is non-toxic and suitable for water exposure — even in koi ponds or water storage tanks — making it a safe waterproofing choice.

On concrete, masonry or standard surfaces — no separate primer is required. However on metal surfaces (galvanised iron, steel sheets) a suitable metal primer must be used for proper adhesion.

Typically at least two coats are applied: a base coat (with embedded membrane if required) and a second coat for full coverage. Some systems add a third finishing coat for smoothness and added protection.

Yes. Super Laykold is suitable for flat roofs, terraces or balconies — acting as a waterproof membrane under tiles or screed to prevent water ingress and leaks.

Yes. Being a rubberised bitumen emulsion, it remains flexible, provides good adhesion, and accommodates slight structural movements — reducing risk of cracks and leak formation.

It can be applied on clean, dry, stable surfaces such as concrete slabs, screeds, masonry, parapet walls, metal roofs (after priming), and old roofs needing re-waterproofing or sealing.

No — Super Laykold waterproofing membrane is not designed for surfaces that will receive heavy foot traffic or load. It is best used under tiles/screed or in waterproofing systems where load is minimal.

Ensure substrate is clean, dry and free of oils or laitance. On metal roofs, apply primer first. Do not apply if temperature is below 5 °C. Protect freshly applied coating from rain, direct sun or heavy wind until fully cured.
