Overview
Mauritius Construction Solution: Nitocote CM210 for Water Retaining Structures
Nitocote CM210 is a two-component, polymer-modified cementitious coating designed for highly durable waterproofing. It cures into a flexible, elastomeric membrane that can bridge cracks and resist high hydrostatic pressures, making it ideal for water-retaining and water-excluding structures in Mauritius, such as potable-water tanks, basements, reservoirs, and culverts.
The coating resists 5 bar positive and 3 bar negative water pressure, making it suitable for potable water tanks, basements, wet areas, and swimming pools. Once cured, it forms a seamless, durable, impermeable layer with excellent bond strength and long-term performance.
Key Features
- Withstands 5 bar positive & 3 bar negative water pressure
- Excellent crack-bridging up to 1.85 mm
- Safe for potable water contact
- Strong adhesion to concrete & masonry
- Bonds to damp or green concrete
- Long working time; easy brushing & trowelling
- Available in White & Grey
- Tested fire rating: Class A
- Excellent UV, CO₂ & abrasion resistance
- Can be sprayed, trowelled, or brushed

Applications
- Potable water tanks & reservoirs
- Swimming pools (under waterproof tile adhesive)
- Internal basement waterproofing
- Wet areas: bathrooms, kitchens, shafts
- Retaining walls (internal face)
- Drainage culverts & utility structures
- Foundation waterproofing under saline groundwater
- Vapour barrier for walls & facades
- Waterproof coating for concrete roofs (under protection layer)
Installation Guide
- Surface Preparation
- Remove dust, oil, laitance, paint & contaminants
- Clean using high-pressure water jet or grit blasting
- Fill blowholes <10mm using Nitocote CM210 paste
- Repair deeper areas using compatible repair mortars
- Pre-dampen surface (SSD condition)
- Remove condensation or excess standing water
- Mixing
- Add 5 kg liquid polymer into clean mixing drum
- Gradually add 18 kg powder while mixing
- Mix for 3–5 minutes with slow-speed drill
- Ensure a smooth, lump-free slurry
- Use mixed material within 2 hours @ 20°C
- Application
- Apply first coat with brush or trowel at minimum 1 mm
- Brush in one direction for uniform finish
- If dragging occurs, slightly re-dampen substrate
- Allow first coat to cure:
- 3 hours @ 35°C
- Longer at lower temperature
- Apply second coat at right angles to first
- Recommended final thickness: 2 mm minimum
- For spray application:
- Maintain 1 mm thickness per coat
- Cure 3–5 hours between coats
- Curing
- Second coat must cure minimum 21 days @ 23°C before submersion
- Do NOT expose to running water until fully cured
Limitations
- Do not apply above 45°C or on hot substrates
- Not suitable for tidal or marine splash applications
- Colour shade variation may occur on exterior surfaces
- Do not expose to rain or moving water during application
- Not recommended where aesthetics are critical
- For swimming pools → allow 7 days cure before tile fixing
- Avoid applying below 5°C
Storage
- Powder: store in dry environment away from moisture
- Liquid: store between 10°C–35°C
- Do not freeze
- Shelf life:
- Powder: 12 months
- Liquid: 9 months
Safety & Handling
- Powder is irritating to eyes & respiratory system
- Mixed material is highly alkaline
- Wear gloves, mask & goggles
- Avoid inhalation of dust
- In case of eye contact → rinse immediately
- Do not ingest; seek medical attention if swallowed
