Gyproc Activ’Air Board is a gypsum plasterboard designed to improve indoor air quality by permanently eliminating formaldehyde—one of the most common indoor pollutants. It looks and installs like a normal gypsum board but provides long-term health and environmental benefits.
Activ’Air contains special additives within the gypsum core that capture formaldehyde molecules from indoor air and convert them into a harmless, inert compound. This reaction is permanent, meaning captured formaldehyde is never released back into the air.
It is scientifically proven to work for at least 50 years, assuming standard indoor formaldehyde concentration levels around 25 µg/m³. Even after multiple renovations or repainting, the board continues to work effectively without losing performance.
It is ideal for homes, offices, schools, nurseries, hospitals and indoor spaces where air quality is a priority. It can be installed on walls or ceilings as part of any standard drylining system, making it suitable for new builds and renovations.
Activ’Air works best with breathable finishes, water-based acrylic paints and standard wallpaper. Solvent-based, oil-based or impermeable coatings may reduce the formaldehyde-absorbing performance, so breathable finishes are always recommended.
The standard Activ’Air Board is not moisture-resistant. However, Gyproc also offers Activ’Air MR (Moisture Resistant) for humid environments like kitchens and moderately wet areas. For constantly wet spaces, additional waterproofing substrates should be used.
While ventilation helps dilute pollutants, Activ’Air chemically neutralizes formaldehyde permanently. This makes it more effective for long-term indoor air purification, especially in tightly sealed modern buildings where air exchange is limited.
Its primary function is formaldehyde reduction, but by reducing one of the most harmful VOCs, overall indoor air quality improves significantly. For broader VOC protection, it should be combined with good ventilation and low-VOC interior materials.
Yes. Since it reduces formaldehyde—a pollutant linked to respiratory irritation—it is highly recommended for nurseries, children’s rooms, elderly care facilities and hospitals where occupants are more sensitive to air quality issues.
Yes, Activ’Air is available in combined versions such as Activ’Air MR, Activ’Air FireStop, Activ’Air DuraLine and Activ’Air M2TECH, offering moisture resistance, fire resistance, impact resistance and mould protection alongside air-purifying benefits.
